I can't greet the headmaster in Sims 2, is there a way to fix this?

I'm playing Sims 2, and the previous generation of the family got into the private school with no problems. Now I'm trying to get the next gen in, and none of my sims can greet the headmaster! He's standing out there waiting, and every time I send any of my sims to greet him, they just get all mad about something being in the way (I think, those little thought bubbles aren't the most explicit sometimes) even though there's nothing there but them and the headmaster. Is there a solution for this?
